Congress Ok’s One Month Delay to Hemp Ban

Yesterday, the House of Representatives approved HR 6500 which in part delays the ban on hemp products by one month, until December 11, 2026.. Under the 2018 farm bill, hemp was defined as cannabis with no more than 0.3% of delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis. In turn, this created a loophole that has enabled an intoxicating hemp market to thrive. Last year, Congress amended the definition of federally legal hemp to exclude products with more than 0.4mg of total THC, which will effectively shut down the intoxicating hemp market. In August, the Senate passed this one month moratorium on the ban so the bill now goes to President Trump for his signature.
