Earlier this month, a Department of Health and Human Services was made available to the public that recognizes that there remain many unknowns about the effects of cannabis. There remain many unanswered questions because there is limited legal means to research the substance while it remains a Schedule I substance. While some elected officials, like Senator Grassley, have pounced on this report as being at odds with DHHS’ recommendation to reschedule cannabis to Schedule III, the other reading of this report is that it reinforces the need to reschedule so that more expansive research can be conducted.
