Judi Cassel leads the Cannabis Law Practice Group inside the HMS law firm. The Cannabis Law Group assists cannabis grower/processors, dispensaries, laboratories, healthcare entities, hemp grower/processors, and ancillary businesses navigate the cannabis regulatory landscape. Cassel along with other attorneys at Cannabis Law PA – Micah Bucy, Aaron Rosengarten, Kevin McKeon and Dennis Whitaker – assists cannabis organizations with regulatory, transactional and litigation matters.
She has been in her current position eight years.
Cassel’s Cannabis Law Group attorneys argued and won important decisions for the cannabis industry before the state’s Commonwealth Court, which include litigation to secure the right of cannabis growers to add terpenes to cannabis products and the right of cannabis organizations to use the same testing laboratory for both phases of testing. Her team is currently in federal court representing several clients, pro bono, to fight for their right to obtain Section 8 housing.
“The conflict between Pennsylvania’s legalization of medical marijuana and the continued illegality of cannabis at the federal level make it difficult for everyone participating in the cannabis industry. We expect President Biden will legalize cannabis in 2024,” Cassel said.
