On Monday, New Mexico’s Governor signed into law S.B. 219, which legalizes psilocybin therapies to combat certain qualifying conditions and authorizes a regulated industry to be administered by the State’s Department of Health. The Medical Psilocybin Act was passed on a veto-proof, bi-partisan basis by New Mexico legislators. Initially, there are four qualifying conditions – major treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, substance use disorders, and end-of-life care. But the Act also creates an advisory board that can recommend other qualifying conditions be added in the future. The Act directs the Department of Health to implement the psilocybin program by December 31, 2027.
